At a glance
How does the deposit limit work?
In licensed online gambling, a cross-provider deposit limit applies. As a rule, that is 1,000 euros per month, calculated across all providers together and not per provider individually. This is monitored via the LUGAS system. Under strict conditions, a higher limit is possible in individual cases.
Why is there a limit?
The limit is intended to prevent players from staking more money than they can afford. It is a central building block of player protection and ensures that gambling stays within one's own means. In addition, with many providers you can set yourself even lower personal limits.
What does that mean in practice?
If you play online, LUGAS checks in the background whether your monthly limit is being kept to. If you reach the threshold, further deposits are no longer possible that month. At the bricks-and-mortar betting shop, the cross-provider online limit is handled differently; there, age verification and the blocking system apply. How deposit limits and loss limits for sports betting differ is explained in detail in the guide.
