Half-time/full-time bet

With the half-time/full-time bet, you tip the score at half-time and the final result. Both predictions have to be right, and in return the odds are higher.

At a glance

Principle: predict two results, half-time and the end
Condition: both tips have to be right
Odds: higher than on a simple win bet
Example: home lead at the break, home win at the end

How does the half-time/full-time bet work?

With this bet type, you predict two things. First, who is leading at half-time or whether it is a draw at the break. Second, how the match ends. Both parts have to be right for your bet to win.

An example: you tip that the home team leads at the break and also wins at the end. But if the away team is leading at half-time, the bet is already lost, even if the home team wins in the end after all. So you have to assess the course of the match in two phases correctly. At the betting shop on site, you'll usually find this bet under the abbreviation HT/FT on the bigger fixtures.

The guide Bet types at a glance covers this in detail.

What variants are there with a half-time/full-time bet?

From the three possible half-time scores and the three possible final scores, nine combinations arise. The table shows some of them. H stands for home, D for draw, A for away.

Tip (half-time / end)MeaningExample odds
H / Hhome leads at the break and wins2.50
D / Hdraw at the break, home wins5.00
A / Haway leads at the break, home turns the match around21.00
D / Dbreak and end both a draw4.50

The combination A / H stands for a comeback and therefore has particularly high odds. Such patterns are rare and hard to predict.

Worked example: half-time/full-time bet

Suppose you stake 5 euros on the tip H / H (home leads at the break and wins) at odds of 2.50. You work out the payout with payout = stake times odds. The table shows how a few patterns are settled.

Half-timeFinal scoreSettlement H / HPayout
1-0 home2-0 homewon12.50 euros
0-01-0 homelost0.00 euros
0-1 away2-1 homelost0.00 euros

The bet wins only if both parts are right. Even a wrong half-time lead sinks the tip, even if the final score fits.

What is this bet suited to?

The half-time/full-time bet can suit you when you have a clear idea of the course of a match and not just of the final result. If you expect a strong home team to set the pace from the start and lead early, the tip H / H fits well. If, on the other hand, you reckon with a tough first half and a decision only after the break, a combination with a half-time draw is the better choice.

Comeback tips like A / H, in which the home team turns a deficit around, are also possible. Such patterns are rare and therefore have very high odds. But that is exactly where the danger lies: the high odds easily tempt you into unrealistic tips. Only place such bets if you have good reasons for your assessment.

At the betting shop on site, you'll find all nine combinations listed at the terminal. Compare the odds at your leisure and consider which pattern fits your assessment of the two teams.

What are the pros and cons of a half-time/full-time bet?

The half-time/full-time bet is demanding, but in return offers high odds.

  • Advantage: considerably higher odds than on a simple win bet
  • Advantage: even a comeback or a lead can be tipped specifically
  • Advantage: many combinations allow precise tips on the course of the match
  • Disadvantage: both parts have to be right, one error is enough for a loss
  • Disadvantage: the course of a match is hard to predict over two phases
  • Disadvantage: high odds stand for rare patterns and low chances of a winner

What should you look out for with a half-time/full-time bet?

Bear in mind that two correct predictions are needed. That makes the bet demanding and harder to land than a simple win bet. Don't let high odds tempt you into unlikely comeback tips. Only stake money you can spare. Play responsibly. Gambling is only permitted from the age of 18 (21 in Bremen).

What is a half-time/full-time bet?

With the half-time/full-time bet, you tip the score at half-time and the final result. Both predictions have to be right, and in return the odds are higher than on a simple win bet. One example is a home lead at the break and a home win at the end.

How does a half-time/full-time bet work?

You predict two things. First, who is leading at half-time or whether it is a draw. Second, how the match ends. If the other team leads at the break, the bet is already lost, even if a different result occurs at the end.

Why are the odds so high on this bet?

Because you have to hit two results at the same time. That is harder than a simple win bet and is rewarded with higher odds. The bet is demanding. Only stake money you can spare, and play responsibly. Permitted from the age of 18 (21 in Bremen).
